The Marcella name traces its roots in the Appliance business to 1947 when John D. Marcella’s grandfather opened a business called All Brands in his Duane Avenue garage in Schenectady. Marcella's was later founded in 1957 in the city's Mont Pleasant neighborhood. After graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, John entered the Military where he was a member of the West Point Band, showcasing his extensive music training on the Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute. After completing his Army Service, he worked with his father until 1968 when he opened his first Appliance Store in Rotterdam Plaza. The business was later consolidated and operations expanded to 735 Crane Street as John D. Marcella and Son Appliances, Inc. In 2009 operations were moved into a new, larger downtown store on Broadway featuring over 30,000 square feet of inventory and the store was later known as Marcella’s Appliance Center. Marcella’s has since opened a second location in Clifton Park in 2016.
The Schenectady County Democratic Committee presented John D. Marcella with the 2009 Business Leader of the Year Award for his commitment and loyalty to the City of Schenectady. Marcella’s has also been listed in TWICE Magazine's Annual Report of the "Top 100 Major Appliance Retailers in the US" several times.
Marcella’s Appliance Center is full service from sales to service and features a knowledgeable and experienced staff. His philosophy from day one has always been to please the customer and make each and every one happy with their experience at Marcella’s.
